You are what you eat

How many of you have had a busy schedule? Whether it is from that huge school project or finals, a deadline at work, sporting events, and more! How often do you find yourself eating out at a restaurant or fast food chain more often than you normally would?
 
I’m pretty sure most of us can raise our hands to that!
 
Busy times call for fast paced meals. Which usually means unhealthy, (unless you’re incredible at meal prepping, and if so we need a blog post by you!) fast foods. Have you ever noticed after a while of eating unhealthy, your skin is showing the world your stresses?
 
We have all heard the saying “You are what you eat.” That is such a true statement! Unhealthy eating can be the number one cause of breakouts and dullness. Greasy foods = greasy skin, yuck! Knowing this a relief though! That means this is something easy to fix- starting now- and I am going to help you!
 

Chug, Chug, Chug!

 
No, I am not talking that weekend you had in Cabo. That probably wreaked havoc on your skin. I am talking about…. water!
 
I am going to get real with you, I am THE WORST at drinking water. I buy those cute new water bottles making me think I will carry them around and drink more, but I never do. I used to think water was so boring when I could have a Diet Coke and my taste buds squeal with delight. But water is so beneficial to not only your health and wellness, but your skin too! When you aren’t drinking enough water, your skin is dry and your lips are chapped. Your skin can even have a grey-ish dull tint to it! Who wants that? So if you’re like me, spruce up your water drinking skills with these tips!
 
  • Add fresh fruit to your water. I love adding oranges, limes, lemon, cucumber, berries. Get creative!
 
  • Get a clear water bottle and write hours of the day on the side. This ensures you’re drinking throughout the day! Try to fill it up one or two more times!
 
  • Get an app to set reminders on your phone for you to drink water! They have cute ones where you can even water plants and grow a garden with how much water you’re drinking to make it fun! (even an alarm helps if you prefer that!)
 
  • Drink 2 glasses of water before your meal, it will keep you hydrated and help you to not overeat as well! Double score!

Food for thought

 
Eating healthier can not only make your skin glow and feel healthy, but specific foods can help boost your collagen production! Collagen helps to give our skin strength and elasticity. As we age, our collagen production can slow down so we need to find ways to naturally add it into our diets. Such as these five delicious foods (note: not all are vegan!):
1. Avocado
 
Avocado is full of Biotin and Omega-3 to help speed up collagen production and give your skin a healthy glow.
 
2. Blueberries
 
Blueberries are jam packed full of antioxidants which help with anti-aging! (see what I did there?)
 
3. Eggs
 
Amino acids are key to forming collagen, and eggs are full of them! Along with protein, which is an amazing aid to cell repair.
 
4. Fish
 
Fish is similar to avocado, in that it is full of omega-3 to help boost collagen production and elasticity.
 
5. Nuts
 
Not only do nuts also have omega-3 as well, but they also contain Vitamin E. This can help reduce sagging and wrinkling of your skin.
 
So, the next time you think about eating out, try order one of these things. Or instead, head to the local market and grab some of these items for a quick, healthy food source!
